There is essentially no-one that I know around here who plays. If anyone ever does do this, the simplest way would be to take he GNU code of the new "NNGS" go server and adapt it. I'm not going to do it because I dodn't have the time or the aptitude. But if anyone is seriously thinking about it, here's a relevant message from rec.games.go: 8) is the most important thing........ rec.games.go #18088 (86 more) [1] From: nngs imageek york cuny edu (Go Server Account) [1] NNGS information Date: Wed Nov 01 10:19:19 EST 1995 Organization: York College, City University of New York Lines: 65 Over the past two months, the No Name Go Server has turned into a "teaching server," as well as being a wonderful place for friendly and serious games, and this could not please me more. Our new ratings system already has a strong foundation based on many many handicap games, so our relative ranks are fairly accurate, and becoming more so. We pride ourselves on being friendly, helpful, and willing to listen to your needs. *NEW*: http://imageek.york.cuny.edu/~nngs/rats.html These are rated users progress graphs. Some notable items at NNGS: 1) Gobot, a Go playing robot, that presents pro games 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While observing a GoBot game, type "ginfo" and you will get the game title. *NEW*: Gobot now takes requests. Type "help request" while on NNGS. 2) We have implemented a rating system, but it will take time for ranks to stablize. Please see "help ratings". 3) Pair Go (RenGo). See "help pair-go". 4) Many new commands such as awho, censor, and gshout (Go related shout). 5) We do have a great Ladder System, which is a continuously running tournament for serious players. By winning just one even game, the challenger replaces the opponent's place on the ladder. See http://imageek.york.cuny.edu/ladder.html for ladder stats on WWW. 6) The server employs the Super Ko rule. 7) New commands: problem Allows you to view life and death problems. (See "help problem") sresign Allows you to resign a stored game. spair Aids in the setting up of pair matches *8) Source code availability. I am a strong believer in the GNU * project. Once the server is stable (should not be too long), we * will make the entire source code available for anonymous ftp. * (*) Update: I am still tracking down a pointer problem, I am hoping * to get this last problem resolved and bundle it up * for release soon. 9) Many friends who will respond to your ideas and questions. telnet to: imageek.york.cuny.edu 9696 (198.61.17.1 9696) If you have any questions or difficulties, have a suggestion, or just want to send us your good wishes, please email your message to: bugs imageek york cuny edu Enjoy. -- The No Name Go Server is located at: imageek.york.cuny.edu 9696 This address is for announcments only.
