There are 2 possible reasons for failure: (1) 'Error 13' - caused by the decimal character being set to ',' (comma) and not '.' (full stop). Solution: edit SHOGIVAR.INI to change Mobility Weight from '0.5' to '0,5'. (2) 'File not found' - caused by not having MSAFINX.DLL in the system. Solution: get MSAFINX.DLL and install in SYSTEM sub-directory of Windows. Can be obtained from following FTP site: ftp://bwl.bwl.th-darmstadt.de/windows/util/mem/1mbfort Let me know if you still can't get it to work. I also run a postal/email Shogi and Tori-Shogi group, called the Postal Shogi League. Several of the members play other larger variants. Maybe I could persuade you to join us? It costs only 2 Pounds per year for non-UK residents, which covers postage and administration.
