For any win by forfeit or "bye", the player gets one point. For each win in the preliminaries, the player gets one point, and any player who wins twice straight in the prelims gets credit for a third win (since he is not required to play the player who lost twice and would presumably win that game). For each win in the team event, he gains one point. In order to compensate for the increased difficulty of playing on higher boards, each participant in the team event receives a bonus of 4 points minus the average board number on which he played. If the above results in a tie for any qualification spot, a playoff will take place immediately after the players involved are eliminated from the Championship. If the top two players in any category are only one point apart, and no one else in that category is tied for second, the top two shall still have a playoff game to decide the qualifier.
