I didn't study it very well before, but when I now look closer at it I
realize that I really don't like the way positions are represented.  In
particular, I think one position should be encoded in a single line.  I have
no objections against using  the kifu notation for moves (except that it
would be a bit weird to use different piece letters in positions and moves),
but I would prefer to use my SFEN notation (or some other compact,
single-line ASCII format) for positions.

I'll try to be pragmatic, though.  If there is a strong wish for using
kifu-style notation for positions in the community, I will try to find a way
to make it work.
